One Last Wii Wednesday!

It’s been a long and wild ride for our Wii Wednesdays but we’re facing the end of them this school year with our next (and last!) open gaming on Wednesday, May 4th.  From 1-4pm stop by the Wakelin Room where we’ll have two Wii’s set up with either Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers Brawl, or Guitar Hero ready to play.  There’s no need to sign up like at our tournaments, just drop on in and have some fun!

We Have A Winner

Just last week we had our final round of Super Smash Brothers Brawl with the Champions Tournament starting off our Wii Wednesday.  It was an extremely intense battle that sent the audience into a frenzy, chanting the name of their favorite champion in the hopes that he would take home the title of Ultimate Champion.  In the end that was Matthew Huddleston, who used Marth to slice through his fellow champions with a mystical blade.  Congrats to Matthew, but also to everyone else who came out for these great tournaments and made them so much fun.

Matthew the Champion Smasher!

So what’s next?  A no-holds-barred throwdown on Mario Kart of course!  This tournament won’t be like the others, though–it will be two tournaments in one!  On Wednesday, April 6th we’ll start off at 1pm with a Mario Kart race, with 32 potential contestants.  After the race ends (about 2pm) we’ll switch over to battle mode with another 32 spots available.  This way, whether you like to tear it up on the course or hunt down your rivals so you can smash ‘em with a shell, you’ll be in for a treat.  And, as always, if you like getting in an extra play time after the tournaments, we’ll have open gaming starting about 3.  We’ve also changed the way you’ll register for the tournaments, with separate signups for the race and the battle. So, to sign up for the Mario Kart Race Tournament, click here and to sign up for the Mario Kart Battle Tournament, click here.  See you at the games!

A Champion Will Be Decided!

Wow!  It seems like these tournaments just keep getting more intense as the months roll along.  This past Wednesday saw the last of our Super Smash Brothers Tournaments, and the excitement level was ratcheted up to such a level that I thought a sonic boom ripped through the room when the day’s tournament started!  One more winner was to be decided, and Sasha Brown handily destroyed the competition as Lucas, using the PK storm to rain down fury on his opponents.

So what’s in store for Wii Wednesdays?  On February 2nd (yes, next Wednesday!) we’ll have a tournament to end all tournaments, where the past four victors will meet in one big Super Smash Bros. Championship Tournament.  Stop by to watch the fierce melee and stay for some excellent open gaming that will last from 1 until 4pm–we’ll have Mario Kart, Super Smash Bros., and Guitar Hero.  No need to sign up, just stop by and we’ll get you in on a round!

Another Great Round of Smashing!

the tournament begins

It was another fantastic day in the library as the sounds of cheering voices & screaming participants mixed with the sound effects of Kirby swallowing his opponents and Donkey Kong beating his bongos.  The Wellesley Cable Access Channel was there to record all the smashing for posterity’s sake, so keep your eyes on this blog and we’ll be posting it as soon as it hits the ‘net.

our new champion Kris Brown!

More exciting than seeing yourself on television in a toe-to-toe battle with your foes is the fact that we have our third Super Smash Brothers Champion!  Kris Brown bongoed his way to first place in the form of our favorite banana eater, Donkey Kong.  There’s only one more Champion to be decided, which will happen on our fourth and final round of Super Smash Brothers Tournaments on January 26th–for more info on registering, click here.  After that we’ll have the four champions meet the following week and on Feburary 2nd we’ll see who will hold the coveted title of All-Town Champion!

A New Smash Bros. King Is Crowned!

We’ve just had another amazing and fast-paced tournament today, with a record crowd showing up and plenty of smashing going down!  Today also brought a new face for our Super Smash Brothers Brawl Leader Board, as Duncan Brown took on the greatest fighters Wellesley had to offer and defeated them all as the legendary mercenary Snake.

Duncan Brown as Snake takes the Tournament!

We’re not ending the Smash Bros. Tournaments with this–oh no, we’ve still got some more rounds chock-full of awesomeness ahead!  You can sign up here for the next round on December 8th from 1-4pm.  See you there!

Smash Bros. Got Smashed!

I–and hopefully everyone who came in from the rainy day–had a great time at our first Super Smash Brothers Brawl Tournament.  We had 28 people in the tournament, which meant 7 initial rounds before we got into the semi-finals.  Things got pretty heated at the very beginning with the last two combatants taking at least three minutes, having eliminated their other two opponents, before a clear victor emerged.

the games get crazy!

Yes, it was a very rainy day outside which helped draw people in to the library, but I think the amount of screaming, applauding, and loud special effect noises from the battle brought in plenty more.

coming in from the rain

If you want to join in on the fun we’re having another tournament next month on November 3rd from 1-4pm–and should have them for the rest of the school year, on the first Wednesday of each month.

the battle continues . . .
